Malaysia

Orang

Malaysia has a population of 29.4 million people. The people group adopted by RiverLife is the indigenous people known as the Orang Asli.

There are approximately 150,000 Orang Asli living in the northern, central and southern regions of Malaysia. Their traditional beliefs include animism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam. Amongst the Orang Asli, only six per cent (10,000) are Christians.

Major social concerns include poverty, low literacy, high infant mortality and a low average life expectancy of 53 years. There is a critical need to reach many Orang Asli villages who have never heard the Gospel before.

Ministry of RiverLife Church among the Orang Asli

With Ps Joseph Boon Chai and his ministry, RiverLife has been reaching out to the Orang Asli in Malacca and Pahang. Ps Joseph now runs a hostel which hopes to provide Orang Asli children with good education while teaching them the ways of God, for the transformation of their villages.

Our Partnership includes:

  • Supporting the hostel activities
  • Community development projects including micro-business in goat-breeding
  • Financial support for pastors and ministry workers to carry out the work of evangelism and discipleship among the Orang Asli
