Day 27
The Way to the Father
Read John 14:1-14
Summary
Jesus told His disciples not to be troubled, for He was preparing a place for them in His Father's house.
He declared that He is the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Him.
Jesus explained to His disciples that knowing Him means knowing the Father, because He is in the Father and the Father is in Him.
He promised that those who believed in Him would continue to do His works, and even greater works than He had done, because He was going to the Father.
When He had departed, the Holy Spirit would come to empower them to do greater works. (v 16, Acts 1:8)
Jesus also promised that He would answer their prayers so that God the Father would be glorified.
Reflect
1. Read vv. 1-4: Why should your heart not be troubled? How does knowing your final eternal destination bring comfort to you in your moments of fear or uncertainty?
2. Consider Jesus’ promises in vv. 12-14.
You will continue to do His works, and even greater works, in your life.
Your prayers will be answered when you ask them in Jesus’ name.
What is the pre-condition required for these promises to be fulfilled? (vv. 11-12, John 15:7-8). How can you prime yourself to see the fulfilment of these promises?

Jesus promised that those who believed in Him would do greater works. This life of greater works involves abiding in Him, aligning with His will, and glorifying the Father. Through Jesus' intercession and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, believers are called to a deeper, fuller experience of God's kingdom.
Reflect
3. What would your life look like if you could step into the "greater works" that Jesus speaks of?
Closing Prayer
Pray for a deeper understanding of what it means to step into Jesus’ greater works through the power of His Spirit. Ask God for a heart that is aligned to His, so that you can bring Him glory. Ask Him to give you the faith to ask boldly of Him and see your prayers answered.
