Many of us know that reading the Bible matters, yet it is easy for Bible reading and prayer to become irregular, rushed, or crowded out by the pace of life. The Spiritual Practice: Scripture course will help us grow in our relationship with God and establish a more grounded devotional life of Bible reading and prayer.
How is this course different?
The aim is not only to understand Scripture better, but to be shaped by it. You will learn to build real rhythms of meeting with God in His Word, responding to Him in prayer, and letting His truth take root in daily life.
This is different from a Bible teaching seminar, where the focus is mainly on receiving content, and different from a “how to study the Bible” class, where the focus is mainly on interpretation methods, study tools, or technical skills.
This course is designed to help us grow in a lived relationship with God through Bible reading and prayer.
Format and Weekly Rhythm
The 4 sessions are based on a resource by Practicing the Way. Each session comprises video teaching by John Mark Comer, guided discussion, weekly exercises and readings, and a companion guide.
Each Sunday: We will gather around the session teaching, spend time in discussion groups, and journey with the same group over the four weeks.
During The Week: There will be exercises to practise personally, so that Sunday’s learning can become part of our everyday lives.
The weekly rhythm is therefore not just attending a class on Sunday, but learning together, practising during the week, and returning the following Sunday to reflect and continue the journey together.
As the course is designed as a four-week journey in the same discussion group, we strongly encourage those who sign up to make every effort to attend all four sessions and to engage faithfully with the weekly exercises in between. The learning will be most fruitful for those who come ready not just to attend, but to participate, practise, and journey with others.
