3 Reasons why God Wants to Care for the Poor

1. Our God is a compassionate Father (Psalm 68:5-6, Deuteronomy 10:17-19)

2. All humans are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27)

  • Jesus closely identifies Himself will all people, especially the poor, weak and marginalized (Matthew 25:34-40)

3. It’s our practical way of loving God (1 John 3:16-18, James 2:14-16, James 1:27)

The Results of Caring for the Poor

1. God is glorified (Matthew 5:16)

2. People are drawn to Jesus (John 13:34-35, Acts 2:44-45, 47)

3. We receive God’s joy (Psalm 41:1)

How Can We Show Practical Love to the Poor?

1. By giving generously (Leviticus 19:9-10)

2. By defending their rights (Psalm 82:3-4)

3. By involving them in our lives (Luke 14:12-14)

How Can We Get Involved Today?

1. By helping the poor when opportunity arises

2. By serving with RiverLife’s community arms
